A. Summary
I was talking with four people. We were in the same room. David is the host of the room. He is living in Pittsburgh. He served in the army for 20 years. He retired now. Surprisingly, he stayed in Seoul at 88 Olympics. Anyway, Felewa is a Germany. She is 23years old. She is interested in learning Japanese. There was a man whose ID is smile but I don't know his name because he didn't tell us his name. All I know about him is that he was born at China but he is living in Japan now. His English was quiet good so I was impressed.
We were talking about differences between English and other language such as Korean, Chinese, Japanese. For example, we talked different sentence structure. I told them that Europeans were better than Asian in learning English because of the alphabet and sentence structure. They agreed with my opinion. We also talked about Pittsburgh. Actually, Felewa and David were talking about it because Felewa was interested in Pittsburgh. I didn't remember what they said except civil war.
It was so difficult to find a nice and good conversational partners. However, it was great time. As you said, we could improve speaking skills and listening skills. Thank you.

The Race for Equality (In-class)
A. Summary
Opinion 1.
There is no doubt in her mind that Korea has racism problem. For example, English academy which is in Korea most likely hire white people. They don't hire the others such as Asian, black people even if they are as good as White people in teaching English. Many people have negative
view of black.
Opinion 2.
He thinks that Koreans' negative view comes from American T.V and American military. The blacks in American military make bad impression because they are in the military. It seems that black people are always being represented as villains. It's no wonder that Korean has negative view of black people. It can be excuse because it clearly shows discrimination of race.
Opinion 3.
He thinks that second speaker was missing the point. If we show in T.V, most T.V stars have white skins and some people having black skins are treated like crooks or simple-minded people.
Most of them are working low class jobs in Korea.
Opinion 4.
She thinks that some of people who comes from foreign country are trying hard such as learning language and working hard. However, we never really accept them because they are different. We should accept and them into our society.
My opinion.
I agree with the last speaker. We should respect them even though they are different or they comes from poor country.
I thinks that there is no easy and fast way to prevent racism in Korea. To prevent racism, we should try to understand them. If they appear in T.V show like documentary, it could help people to understand them. We should know that they are not much different with us.

I am on a diet (In-class)
A. Summary.
1. The first speaker talked about a woman. She was bulimic. She always used the bathroom after a meal. She throws up everything she ate by sticking her finger down her throat. This is how she kept the figure. However, she ruins her metabolism. She can't eat like normal healthy person anymore. The dieting like her does not work and it ruins your health.
2. The second speaker agrees that the dieting like the first speaker mentioned is not a good idea. He has always had weight problem all his life. He learned how to eat the food he likes in moderation. So he is able to lose weight. He insist that when you are on a diet, you need to do it slowly. Just watch what you eat and exercise more but don't deprive yourself of food.
3. She has an weight problem. She knows what she has to do but she has no self-control. She used to try to lose weight like taking dieting pills and starving her self. She sees so many pretty clothes but she can't wear. Although she sees pretty clothes that she wants to buy, there is no big size for her in Korea.
4. It is hard for plus-sized woman in Korea. When you turn on the TV or go to cinema, you only see beautiful women. There are no role models in Korea for large-framed women. On the other hand, there are many over-weight celebrities in western. The westerns are more generosity to over-weight women.
B. Opinion.
I totally agree with the second person. Actually, I am very thin and I have never been on a diet. I need to put weight. However, If I were on a diet, I would do like the second speaker said. I would exercise ragularly and eat healthy food.

Please, Let Me Die ( In-class)
A. Summary.
1. He said that there were two types of euthanasia. The active euthanasia and the passive euthanasia are them. The active euthanasia is the one the patient request have their lives ended and second is the one the family of the patient request to let the patient die. The second type is legal in many part of the world. People are against in active euthanasia. These patients are in so much pain that they fear the pain more that they dead.
2. There are so many instances that people are expected to die but get well. Even though they requested to die because of the painful illness, they might change their mind later. We have to find hope for them instead of giving the option of suicide.
3. If the patient were someone he loves, he wouldn't want that person to be in so much pain. There are successful euthanasia program. Doctors do not make decisions to end patients' lives by them selves. For example, one doctor can not make a decision. He or she must seek a second opinion before performing the procedure. If patients were suffering from unbearable and constant pain then it's been merciful to help them to end their lives.
4. She said that we should focus on relieving their pain instead of helping them to die. If we allow the euthanasia, some serious problem could be happened. So we must not to allow the euthanasia.

A Scrabble Contest ( Out of class)

I was playing with Deb. She is a married woman and living in Colorado, USA. She is close 50 years old but she doesn't have any children. I asked why she doesn't have any children. "Preferred to spend time with husband and do things without children", she said. We were talking about lots of things such as trip of outside of country, hobby and different culture. She was so kind that I was impressed.
It was a good time that I was playing a game with a person who lives far away and I don't know. I might make foreign friends through this game. I will keep playing this game.
As you can see, my point(155) is not good. It seems that she knew how to get a high point at once.
However, I won the game because she lost contact in accidentally.
Anyway, I used dictionary to challenge her, but some words, which she wrote, weren't in my dictionary but they were valid when I challenged. For example, she wrote 'Noo'. What does 'Noo' mean? I have no idea yet. Could you comment it when you see this? Thank you.
Thanks for introducing this game. It might be helpful to the other students.

Corporal Punishment ( In-class)
A. Summary
Here are four people talking about the corporal punishment. The first speaker thinks that the corporal punishment is not a good idea. He said that sometimes humans are out of control and teachers are also human. If we gave them that much power, it could be abused.
The second speaker agrees with the corporal punishment. At these days, students have no manners, no respect and they don't care about anything. They know that they wouldn't be hit even if they behave badly. That makes students worse. It seems that the corporal punishment is humiliation but it is better than just keep watching bad students.
The third speaker doesn't agree with the corporal punishment. The students could think about revenge from the corporal punishment. They also might learn that violence is the best way to solve the problem.
The last speaker said that parents should be more involved and the corporal punishment is going to be up to the parents' decision. If parents are involved, teachers couldn't abuse their power and students wouldn't feel free to act out as much
B. Opinion.
I think the last idea is the good way. While I was in high school and middle school, I used to be hit by teachers. Sometimes, I didn't want to go to school because of that corporal punishment. I felt that some teachers hit us with their personal emotions.
However, I think we need corporal punishment. At these days, students are so rude and some students don't care about anything. There are no solution besides a corporal punishment.
What I want to say is that we need some laws, rules and regulations about the corporal punishment.
We also degrade students grade they behave badly.
