Mr. Thomas F. Jernstad
Professor of English Department
Soong-sil University.

Dear, Mr. Thomas F. Jernstad

I am very glad to introduce myself. I have been studying English for 8years as a student of English Department in Soong-sil university since I entered the school at 2001. I also have been studying Business administration for a sub-major. While I am studying in university, I temporary rested from study twice. Like the others, I served in the army for 2years and I leaved the country to go to abroad so that I study English where English is spoken. Now I am a senior student and preparing to get a job which is kind of the financial world.

The U.K is the country in which I studied for 1year. At that time, I was looking forward to having useful experiences and I actually had. I met lots of foreign friends although we had different culture and way of thinking. They always said like this "Ho! you are always smiling, that's why I like you!" I am not only friendly but also good at making friends. Most of them who I have ever met and I keep touching with each other. Having many friends, I think that is big fortune to me.

I was a member of Cham-den-sam that is a group of Soong-sil university. We had seminars to argue about every kinds of topics such as campus life, movie, political problems, social issues and the others. As a result of this, I could improve skills of argument and how to persuade people. Furthermore, I could get lots of knowledge. Because of my hard work in this group, I could be elected for head of the group when I became a sophomore. I learned that how to lead a group and how to deal with many people in the group.

Every summer had gone, I used to have dark skins. Almost every summer after I entered university, I went to agricultural village to give them my hands. Although I didn't know about agricultural skills so I couldn't be big help to them, I felt happy. Unless I had this experiences, I couldn't recognize a big pleasure comes from social service. I am always thinking that how I help poor people as my little power. Now I am planning to teach English for poor students who can't get private lessons. I hope that I could help people who need my help as long as I can.

"why do we fall, Bruce?"
"So we could learn to pick ourselves up."
This is part of the film 'Batman begins'. We fall down sometimes and want to give up something. In my case, however, I never give up and try harder and harder until I achieve my own goal. I have been in difficult situations several times during the life but I know that there is always solution or way out and I believe that I can find that solution or way out. "Never, never, never give up" by Winston Churchill is my favorite speech and I keep this in my mind.

This is the last year in university. I would like to get a job after I graduate the school. Especially, financial world is the one which I most prefer. To achieve my goal. I am studying Business administration in university as a sub-major. Indeed, I am going to take a test get a certification of FP(Financial Planner) at the following summer. One day, I would like to establish my own company.

I hope that you know me better through the self-introduction. Please do not hesitate if you have any questions or you need further information.

Yours faithfully,

Sung-ho, Park

Greetings, Mr. Park!

So, how are you these days? I'm fine because spring is in the air (though it’s still a little chilly). It's great to be alive, especially at my age!

Well, I visited your weblog over the weekend, and carefully read your first out-of-class composition activity (self-introduction), plus I looked at the rest of your weblog. This took longer than I expected; hence the delay in posting a comment on your weblog.

Regarding your first assignment, I (a) selected five major issues, and (b) gave the corrections (X: = incorrect; C: = correct). I hope you will carefully look at these corrections and keep them in mind when you submit future assignments (that is, try not to repeat them):

1.

X: I also have been studying Business administration for a sub-major.
C: My minor is in Business Administration.

2.

X: Like the others, I served in the army for 2years and I leaved the country to go to abroad so that I study English where English is spoken.
C: Like other Korean males, I served in the Army for two years. Then I lived abroad to study English in the UK.

3.

X: Most of them who I have ever met and I keep touching with each other.
C: Most of those I met I still keep in touch with.

4.

X: We had seminars to argue about every kinds of topics such as
C: We held seminars to debate and discuss various topics such as

5.

X: This is the last year in university. I would like to get a job after I graduate the school.
C: This is my last year in college, and I will begin looking for a job soon.

I am giving a tentative grade regarding your first out-of-class composition activity, which is as follows (ranging from 1-10): 8.5

Well, I’ll see you in class this week, and as a reminder, your 2nd out-of-class composition activity is due on Friday Midnight, March 28. NOTE: I moved the deadline from Wednesday to Friday.

Take care.
